US Congressman Joe Wilson demands that the EPP sever ties with Aleksandar Vučić's party.
US Representative Joe Wilson (Republican from South Carolina) has published a letter he sent together with Senator Roger Wicker to the President of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber.
In the letter, Wilson and Wicker demand that the EPP remove its associate member status and sever all ties with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić's Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
They accuse the SNS of authoritarian practices, corruption, electoral manipulation, and a lack of commitment to Western values.
According to the letter, the OSCE has described the 2023 Serbian parliamentary elections as being held under "unfair conditions."
The authors emphasize that the ruling party has used state resources and public media in its favor, while OSCE recommendations have not been implemented.
They express concern that the same practice is being repeated before the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25, 2026.
The document also mentions Serbia's ties with Russia and China, media control, and cases of corruption.
Wilson emphasizes that the SNS should not use the EPP name to legitimize itself and demands that the European party completely distance itself.
