Montenegro is in a kind of danger and under similar pressure from Serbia as Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Kosovo, as all three form the strategic backbone of the Western Balkans, political scientist Dr Jasmin Mujanovic told in the program “Znam da znaš”, by Gradska RTV, by Jana Vlahović.
“Montenegro is part of the famous ‘Serbian world’ imagined by people like Vulin and Vučić. If the civic concept of Montenegro is destroyed, it will be very bad for both BiH and Kosovo. “There is no political scenario that would be bad for its sovereignty and that would not reflect badly on these two countries”, Mujanovic believes.
Serbian nationalist politics and the clique that has led it for forty years are, as he points out, “frozen”, and now Vucic is trying to implement Milosevic’s idea.
“For four decades they have been at war against Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, against the idea of Europe, liberalism, equal civil rights, and this is a great tragedy. And it is a tragedy for the citizens of Serbia themselves, who have lost half a century in darkness and misery”, Mujanovic stresses.
The attack in Banjska would not have been possible without the serious political and logistical support of the state project, that is, the Republic of Serbia, for which there is no doubt, Mujanovic stresses.
The negotiation process, he believes, is now completely interrupted.
“For Kosovo on the political side, this must mean that their priority at the moment is to maintain control over all parts of the territory. The issue of security and safety of the country and all citizens of Kosovo must be the first priority of the government in Pristina. It would be ideal if dialogue could be restored, but we have to admit that Belgrade clearly doesn’t care about it,” Mujanovic stresses.
He adds that Belgrade is inclined towards violence and new conflicts and that, he says, the only realistic and logical decision for Pristina is to defend itself.
Mujanović doubts that the EU will impose the announced sanctions against Serbia.
“It is possible that the US will impose some additional sanctions against certain Serbian leaders in Belgrade, but unfortunately I do not expect anything specific as far as the European Commission is concerned”, says the political scientist.
He is convinced that if there is no serious response to what Serbia has done, there will be another incident.
“The way the West is conducting its relations with Kosovo is very illogical and in this context it seems that for the Biden administration, Vucic’s Serbia, which is an ally of Russia and China, is a greater American friend than the pro-democracy Kosovo,” Mujanovic concludes./Gradski.me/
