The Metropolitan of Montenegro and Primorje, Joanikije, has once again used a religious ceremony to spread political propaganda against Kosovo by comparing the historical tragedy of Jasenovac with today’s reality in Kosovo.
Joanikije did this while holding a liturgy in the Church of St. Archangel Michael in Podgorica, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary from the breakout of the Jasenovac concentration camp.
“We must not forget the martyrs of Jasenovac, just as we must not forget the martyrs of Kosovo. Jasenovac is an extended Kosovo, and we see that this martyrdom from Kosovo continues to this day. Are the Serbs in Kosovo not still walking the path of Golgotha, persecuted, abandoned by all, without justice and protection? But they survive in faith, hope and love, faithful to their ancestral shrines and homes and their Jerusalem, their holy Serbian land and the crucified Kosovo,” he disinformed about Kosovo.
Joanikije’s participation alongside political figures such as the President of the Montenegrin Parliament, Andrija Mandic, and the Serbian Ambassador to Montenegro, Nebojsa Rodic, proves once again that religious events are being instrumentalized to reinforce pro-Serbian and anti-Western narratives in the region.
This is also demonstrated by the visit of the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije, to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to a statement by the Russian press service, the meeting emphasized the contribution of the Serbian Orthodox Church to strengthening relations between the Russian and Serbian peoples, “who have traditionally maintained cordial, close and trusting relations”./The Geopost/
