Defense Minister Ejup Macedonci stated that Kosovo Security Forces regularly operate with Bayraktar drones to protect the territory of Kosovo and identify security risks.
The Kosovo Security Forces regularly operate with Bayraktar drones, which were purchased by the Turkish state last year.
Defense Minister Ejup Macedonci said this on Klan Kosova’s Rubicon.
“We use Bayraktar drones. Together with General Jashari, the commander of the KSF, we visited the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit in May, a new unit that we established after the Bayraktar drones were commissioned.”
“During this visit, we had contact with our soldiers operating Bayraktar drones and had the opportunity to see a mission with these drones that this unit regularly carries out.” That’s why we regularly test and operate Bayraktar drones,” Macedonci said.
In response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s statement that these drones had crossed the territory of Serbia, Macedonci replied that the drones were only used on the territory of Kosovo, but had the ability to observe more distant areas.
“No, we do not deploy drones outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The capability of these drones is to observe terrain that is further away than the drone is in the air, but it was never our intention to use these drones to observe other areas.”
“The main purpose of using these drones is to observe the territory of the Republic of Kosovo in order to identify risks to the territory of our country, not only human nature, but also natural disasters,” Macedonci said.
The minister added that in addition to drones, Kosovo Security Forces also have other intelligence capabilities that collect security-related information.
“Normally, we collect information about the area around the border when there are threats from that area, and we see the presence of 28 military bases and 20 gendarmerie bases 300 meters to 5 kilometers from the border of the Republic of Kosovo as a danger and a threat.” “But our units do not cross the border of the Republic of Kosovo under any circumstances,” said Minister Macedonci.
