Montenegrin journalist Srgjan Kusovac has reacted to the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic, after the latter declared for the second time that Montenegro is the smallest country in the Balkans.
Through a reaction on the social network X, Kusovac said that this statement cannot be considered a slip of the tongue, as it was repeated twice, implying that Kosovo is not a state.
"Privately you can think whatever you want, but as an official of Montenegro you are obliged to treat the Republic of Kosovo as a state," Kusovac wrote, directly addressing Prime Minister Spajic.
Montenegro recognized Kosovo's independence on October 9, 2008, and established diplomatic relations with Pristina.
Kusovac's statement brings to attention the importance of the official positions of representatives of Montenegrin institutions towards the status of Kosovo, which official Podgorica recognizes as an independent state.
Otherwise, Montenegro has an area of about 13.812 km² and Kosovo has an area of about 10.905 km².
