
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that he talked with the US Emissary to the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, about the importance of peace and stability in the region, after the start of the Russian occupation in Ukraine.
Escobar, who is also the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, met with Kurti on the sidelines of the Delphi Economic Forum.
“Russian influence and the risk of provoking possible conflicts in the Western Balkans were discussed. As a result of these developments, the Prime Minister stressed the need to return attention to security in the region and investments in Kosovo “, it is said in the announcement issued by Kurti’s Office.
The concern about the spread of conflict in Ukraine in the Western Balans, was expressed by Kurti and also by the European Union. In the meeting with Escobar, Kurti also emphasized again the necessity of full integration of the Western Balkans in NATO and the European Union, as a way to guarantee peace and stability in the region and the continent of Europe.”/RFE
Kosovo has recently stepped up its NATO integration efforts. In March, the Government established an inter-institutional working group on Kosovo’s membership in the US-led military alliance. Meanwhile, according to the announcement, Escobar said that Washington supports “Kosovo’s goals towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.”
