Kosovo soldiers train Ukrainian soldiers in the UK

Kosovo soldiers are training soldiers from Ukraine in the UK as part of the INTERFLEX operation. Kosovo’s Ambassador to the UK, Ilir Kapiti, visited the soldiers and shared the photos on X, ex-Twitter.

“We are very proud to have visited our soldiers in Kosovo as part of INTERFLEX and to have trained Ukrainian soldiers in the UK. Their dedication and commitment to supporting our allies is truly commendable,” Kapiti said. Operation Interflex is the operational codename for the UK-led multinational military operation to train and support Ukrainian forces. It is the successor to Operation Orbital (2015-2022) and was launched in July 2022.

In contrast to Orbital, Operation Interflex takes place in the UK and is supported by contingents of international partners. On 18 January 2024, the Kosovo Ministry of Defence announced that a contingent of 26 trainers would be deployed to the UK to participate in the program to train Ukrainian soldiers. Kosovo has also assisted Ukraine in training Ukrainian personnel in demining, a training conducted by KSF instructors in cooperation with the United States European Command.

The United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, then expressed that he was proud of the cooperation between the two countries to support efforts to ensure the safety of the people of Ukraine.

“Today, the first group of Ukraine’s National Police and State Emergency Services completed a joint U.S. European Command and Kosovo Security Forces training initiative on the safe removal of mines and unexploded ordnance. “We are proud to witness this effort by the U.S. and Kosovo to ensure the safety of the Ukrainian people and to stand alongside our Kosovar partners in solidarity with Ukraine,” said Hovenier.

In addition, Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci said that Kosovo’s assistance to Ukraine will not be limited to training the Ukrainian armed forces, but will continue to provide military support packages including armored vehicles and weapons to Ukraine. Kosovo has stood by Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine and joins the democratic world in sanctioning Russia
