The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has approved the status of Kosovo’s assembly by a majority vote.
Kosovo will now have associate status in this assembly.
MP Driton Hyseni, who is also head of the Kosovo’s delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, reacted to this positive development for the country.
“The status upgrade comes after several years of excellent cooperation between the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.” We were represented as an observer delegation from June 2014. The numerous letters and the continuous efforts of the Serbian delegation, but also of other political actors in Belgrade, did not succeed in preventing Kosovo from advancing its status. I send you my warmest congratulations from Sofia, Bulgaria. All the best to our Kosovo!” he wrote on Facebook.
However, there was only one vote against in this vote.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is institutionally separate from NATO, but serves as an important link between NATO and the parliaments of the member countries. It consists of 281 delegates from all 32 NATO member countries.
Extraordinary members can introduce resolutions and amendments to resolutions. They can also act as special rapporteurs in committees to present their perspectives in reports to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly /TheGeopost/.
