The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, has called on Western leaders to react to the glorification of war criminal Ratko Mladić in Serbia.

The appeal comes after state and military honors were given in Belgrade to the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

In a special address, Konakovic addressed the leaders of the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

He also called on the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and all those who defend international law, peace and European values.

Konakovic has sent letters to senior officials in Brussels and Washington, demanding a clear response to the actions of the Serbian authorities.
He has requested that the European Union consider imposing sanctions on officials and institutions that glorify war criminals and deny the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Konakovic has warned that the glorification of Mladic is not only a matter of dealing with the past, but a threat to the trust, stability and European perspective of the entire region.

He previously announced the withdrawal of part of the staff of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Belgrade, saying that relations with Serbia should be reduced to the lowest possible level.
