US lawmakers are expected to vote on an aid package for Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific, as well as another bill on other national security priorities, including giving the US president the right to use frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine and some other sanctions against Iran.
The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, citing US intelligence information, said that China, Russia and Iran are the axis of evil and if Vladimir Putin is allowed to march in Europe, he can go to the Balkans, writes The Geopost.
Johnson has said that now is a critical time and history will judge them, which is why he supports aid to Ukraine.
“I can make my own decision and do something else. I am doing what I think is the right thing here. I think it is extremely important to provide military assistance to Ukraine now. I trust the information we have received. I believe that Xi, Vladimir Putin and Iran really are an axis of evil. I think they are coordinated. If Vladimir Putin continues to march around Europe, if he is allowed to, he can go to the Balkans or to Poland, one of our NATO allies. He’ll send bullets into Ukraine before the American boys do.”
He said that it could not be played when it came to the issue of aid deliveries to Ukraine: “We cannot play politics with this.” We have to do the right thing.”
BiH political analyst Jasmin Mujanovic commented on the statement and said Johnson was referring to Bosnia and Kosovo as Russia’s target in the Balkans.
“When Johnson says Putin could go further in the Balkans, he is paraphrasing US intelligence reports that speak of Dodik and Vucic as the Kremlin’s main proxies. And he will say that Bosnia and Kosovo are their main targets,” Mujanovic said.
Johnson has supported aid to Ukraine and this position of his is in strong opposition to his Republican colleagues.
