People’s Party President Vuk Jeremic said that the draft resolution on imposing sanctions on Russia in the National Assembly represents a “cuckoo’s egg” of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which is being planted against the opposition with the intention of dividing opposition parties.
“We cannot have a reasoned debate on this issue before Vucic informs the members of the Serbian Parliament and the public exactly what he is threatening Serbia with, i.e. why we should impose sanctions on Russia, despite the clear negative political consequences that this step could have to resolve of the Kosovo problem,” said Jeremić, as reported by the People’s Party.
Speaking at an electoral assembly of the People’s Party’s Zemun municipal committee, he said he had not heard stories that a “catastrophe of wide proportions” would happen if Serbia did not impose sanctions against Russia.
“It has already been eight months since the start of the war in Ukraine, and none of the threats in this regard have come true so far,” Jeremic added.
According to him, Vucic is laying a ” cuckoo’s egg ” for the opposition with the help of someone with whom, he says, the People’s Party has worked in the past.
“Aside from how scandalous it is to say before the elections that you are against sanctions, and after the elections to reverse the words – this should serve to honor those who are ready to tell one story before the elections and another after them. What is much worse is that now, to Vucic’s advantage, a cuckoo’s egg is being planted in the opposition with the intention of dividing it. The people’s party will not participate in this,“ Jeremic said.
