Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk strongly condemned the presence of European heads of state and government at the parade and declared: “It’s a disgrace to be at a parade in Moscow and applaud Putin.”
Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, began by expressing her deep disappointment at the actions of Slovakian President Robert Fico, the only head of state from an EU member state to have traveled to Moscow.
“How can you stand by the man who started this war with so much unnecessary death and suffering of innocent people? You are on the wrong side of history,” she said.
French President Emmanuel Macron, meanwhile, was more diplomatic, expressing doubts about the wisdom of such an approach, writes the Guardian, reports Telegrafi.
On the same day, France and Poland signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on defense and energy issues, including mutual assistance in the event of a military threat, emphasizing their commitment to common security.
Otherwise, the presence of Robert Fico and Aleksandar Vučić at the military parade in Moscow has provoked sharp criticism within the EU, especially in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Her participation symbolizes a deepening of relations with Russia, which is at odds with the policy of most European countries that want to isolate Moscow because of its actions in Ukraine. /Telegrafi
