US-sanctioned Serbian nationalist Milorad Dodik has recently faced much criticism for anti-Western actions in Bosnia and Herzegovina as president of the Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In this wave of criticism, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has coordinated with Dodik for a joint meeting with him, a meeting of all the “state authorities” of Serbia and Republika Srpska.
Vucic said that he had a meeting with Dodik to discuss the current situation in the country, despite the fact that every day Dodik is seen more and more as a destabilizing factor in the region due to threats of separation and extremist rhetoric.
“I discussed with President Milorad Dodik about the situation in the region, the upcoming important meetings of the delegations of the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska. I listened to President Dodik with special attention to all the events in RS and Bosnia-Herzegovina and we agreed to organize as soon as possible a meeting of all state bodies of Serbia, in the territory of Republika Srpska”, said Vucic on Instagram, then showing that in addition to Dodik, he also coordinated with Patriarch Porfirije.
Lately, the Government of Republika Srpska has adopted laws for non-implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and not to publish the decisions of the High Representative of the international community.
The High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, has also severely criticized Dodik for his nationalist and destabilizing actions.
“The act of leaving the constitutional order must be stopped. Divisive rhetoric, threats of separation, threats to territorial integrity and the glorification of war criminals must be stopped, because there is no place for something like this in Europe”, said Borrelli at the fifth meeting of the Stabilization-Association Council, Bosnia-EU.
Concerns about Dodik were also raised by the US envoy for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, in a testimony given to the members of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Relations, on July 18.
“Continuous, divisive and undemocratic actions threaten the stability, security and prosperity of the state and the entire region,” he said.
These concerns of European and American officials have not been commented on by Vucic, with whom Dodik holds frequent meetings about the divisive policies he undertakes in Republika Srpska.
Dodik is a big supporter of the Kremlin and the aggressive war it has launched in Ukraine.
Last year, the US Treasury Department announced that it had imposed sanctions on Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik. Dodik is the ruler of Republika Srpska, the Serbian entity in Bosnia.
After these punishments, Dodik said that every sanction brings Bosnian Serbs closer to “true friends” such as Russia and China.
Pressure has also increased on the EU to sanction the nationalist Dodik.
The European Parliament has requested the imposition of sanctions against Dodik on an ongoing basis, but no action has been taken so far.
