“Iran International” television, based in London, has provided photos of Iranian nationals considered key players in global cyber-attacks, who are linked to various intelligence agencies in Tehran.
The most recent case of cyberattacks attributed to Iranian secret services was against government systems in Albania, launched in 2021 and culminating in a massive disruption of online services in July.
According to an investigation by the company “Microsoft”, during the attack, information was stolen and public services went out of order, because Albania has sheltered an Iranian opposition group for more than a decade now.
Last week, Albania severed diplomatic relations with Iran and expelled the diplomats of the Islamic Republic accredited in Tirana.
While the United States imposed sanctions on the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and its leaders, with NATO also expressing support for Albania.
According to information provided by Iranian television, the head of cyber operations at the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is a person identified as 61-year-old Hamidreza Lashkarian.
He lives in Tehran and works as a university professor. There are reports that he has been involved in numerous cyber attacks on behalf of the secret services.
Last year, a group called “Sayad Project” targeted Tirana’s airport. A group of hackers working against the government of the Islamic Republic, called “Read My Lips” revealed the identity of the author of the attack, named Mohammad-Bagher Shirinkar, sanctioned by the United States for his role in numerous cyber actions.
His brother, Hossein Shirinkar is also a key player in the Sayad Project group. According to London-based Iranian media, he is the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s Intelligence Inspectorate.
Another operator is Mehdi Hashemi Tughraljardi, who is also the brother-in-law of the Shirinkar brothers. He is also sanctioned and turns out to be the general director of a digital company in Tehran.
According to Microsoft, the cyber attackers operated outside Iran and used various tools such as encryption codes used by other Iranian hackers, known for attacking countries whose policies conflict with the interests of the Islamic Republic. /Euronews Albania/
