The European Commission has rejected Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s claims that he had a “long conversation” with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Aleksandar Vučić had told pro-government media that he had spoken to Von der Leyen for 30 minutes and said that they had never spoken about bilateral cooperation for so long.
However, EU spokesperson Stefan de Keersmaecker responded to a journalist’s question about Vučić’s statement by saying that the conversation had been informal.
He clarified that it had been a brief exchange and not an official meeting.
“President von der Leyen had an informal, spontaneous conversation with President Vučić in the reception room before the official dinner in Seville.”
“During this event, she had the opportunity to exchange a few words with many leading politicians, including President Vučić. Therefore, it was not an official bilateral meeting,” said Keersmaecker.
