US Ambassador in Serbia, Christopher Hill decided to give his first interview for “Voice of America” in Serbian.
From Belgrade, he also stated that Russia is not a country that Serbia or any other country should think of as friends.
Among many topics, Hill talked about by the senior American diplomat, he did not leave aside the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process.
Ambassador Hill, who has been involved in all processes in the Balkans since 1991, described the dialogue issues as a very difficult process.
However, he said that it is up to Kosovo and Serbia to decide on continuing the dialogue.
Hill said he is aware that the EU is trying hard to put new ideas on the table, topics that are being discussed, to maintain momentum.
“It’s not a lot of fun, I’ve done this in the past,” Hill told VOA in Serbian.
“The talks are very difficult, and I know the EU is doing the best it can for Serbia and Kosovo to respect that.”
The American diplomat said that these issues are not easy, because if they were, they would have been resolved long ago.
“We must understand the difficulties, but not remain hostage to them. “We have to see where we want to go.”
“Do we want to get stuck in this time or do we want a better life for the people in Serbia. “But American diplomats should not tell Serbs what to do.”
In this interview, Hill said that if it is thought that Russia will solve Serbia’s problems regarding Kosovo, then it is a wrong opinion.
He said Russia should not be taken as a model now.
“It’s not a country you would want as a friend or ally. “But, in the end, it is up to the states themselves to decide and no one is putting pressure,” the US ambassador to Belgrade recalled.
“But people in Serbia have to decide in which direction they want to go.
“The idea that Russia will solve the Serbian problems in Kosovo or somewhere else, just look at the situation in Ukraine and they tell me if it is good for Serbia to rely on everything in Russia,” said Christopher Hill.
