Serbia and Russia are the biggest threats to stability in the Western Balkans region, Kosovo’s chief diplomat, Donika Gervalla, told the UN Security Council on April 20.
“Serbia is the biggest threat to normalization of relations and stability in the region,” Gervalla said.
She said that Kosovo is part of the West, “while Serbia continues to be a satellite of Serbia”, adding that according to her, this is the reason why the Western Balkans region continues to be unstable. She said that with Serbia continuing to arm itself, all countries in the region are threatened by Serbia, as she said that this country has an “army that is ready to attack”.
During her speech, Gervalla also spoke about the recent attacks on members of the Kosovo Police near the border crossings with Serbia, calling them “terrorists” and blaming Belgrade for allowing them to happen.
“Attacks are coming from the territory of Serbia and they would be impossible if [Serbian President Aleksandar] Vucic did not tolerate them,” Gervalla said.
Kosovo, according to Chief Diplomat Gervalla, is ready for dialogue with Serbia, as a way to move forward, but she said that Serbia must first “accept the reality” that Kosovo is an independent state, reiterating Kosovo’s request that this process, which mediated by the EU, should end with mutual recognition./REL
