
Some German states have announced that the public use of the “Z” symbol, which is being used to express support for Russia’s war in Ukraine, will be punished by law.
Senator Iris Spranger from Berlin told the Tagesspiegel newspaper that the use of the “Z” symbol, seen on Russian military vehicles, “obviously means supporting the fight against aggression.”

Lower Saxony and Bavaria have also announced penalties for using the symbol.
“We do not accept the adoption of crimes and violations of international law,” Bavarian Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich told DPA.
