
The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock paid an official visit to Kosovo yesterday. She spoke about the Russian occupation of Ukraine that began on February 24th, and said the attack “was censorship or a ëake-up call referring to the strategic importance of the Ëestern Balkans region”. The chief German diplomat said that this war should stop, as Russian President Vladimir Putin is attacking Ukrainians ëith bombs and missiles.
“This war is happening with bombs and missiles used against people in Ukraine and that is ëhy ëe must do everything ëe can to stop this ëar, and create humanitarian corridors,” said Baerbock.
During the day, Baerbock also met with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.
President Osmani stressed that the start of the NATO membership process is existential for Kosovo, and for peace and security in the region.
Baerbock is also visiting other countries of the Western Balkans. On Thursday morning, she stayed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ëhere she stated that “Germany in the future ëill be more present in the Western Balkans and for this reason for the first time we have a special commissary for this region.” After her stay in Kosovo, Baerbock will continue her visit to Serbia.
