Diplomats, foreign policy experts and security experts have appealed for caution against Russian influence in the Balkans, taking advantage of the country’s connection to Serbia, which has acknowledged Russian influence. They spoke at The Geopost conference on “Russian Influence in the Balkans – Crisis in Ukraine” held in Pristina.
The former ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Russia, Enver Halilovic, stated that the Serbian doctrine does not differ from the Russian one. He said that a system based on equality between individuals is the only solution to maintain peace in the Western Balkans as well as in the world.
“This influence is significant and is great in recent times and unfortunately in the time of Putin’s second term in power in the Russian Federation. We are facing in the Balkans, even in the countries surrounding Serbia, a special situation given that it is present in the Balkans through Russian influence, that is, the doctrine of the Serbian world is nothing but a copy of the Russian doctrine. The only solution that is possible for the Balkans and for the whole world today which is going today in the process of globalization is the civic system on the principles of equality of individuals regardless of their differences in religion, language or gender, race and others. This is the future of the world system, but this is the future that we should be aware of knowing the systems and the maintenance of peace, prosperity in the Western Balkans,” said Halilovic.
