Journalist and analyst of the American magazine Foreign Affairs, Ivana Stradner reports that she has received death threats.
Stradner recently published an analysis entitled “Russia is playing with fire in the Balkans – how does Putin’s game of power threaten Europe?” In this analysis, which was also published in our portal, she presented the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo’s membership in NATO.
She has denounced the threats through an announcement on her Twitter profile.
“I received death threats and Twitter refuses to delete content? Please, can Twitter explain how it ‘did not find any violations of the content’. This is not the first time Twitter has refused to delete harmful content,” she said.
Threats to Strander had increased and she had reported them in several posts.
” I received a threat that I should be shot in my forehead. I reported it and Twitter thinks that gunshot threats don’t violate its rules. It’s part of my job to get online harassment and bullying and frankly I don’t care… but gunshots, seriously, Twitter Support?,” Stradner said.
Analyst Stradnder had stated that her reporting had also prompted the revelation of many similar stories. According to her, these threats are the result of the activity of numerous extremist groups on the Internet and Russian factories and trolls operating from the Balkans.
” Hi Twitter, after I reported this more people reached out with similar stories. It seems your AI has issues in the Balkans. Numerous extremist online groups and Russian troll factories operate from the Balkans & you should fix this. I’m happy to share data with Twitter Support”, she said.
The threat against journalist Stradner has provoked numerous reactions. The expert on the Western Balkans, Janusz Bugajski, also reacted.
Bugajski congratulated her and offered solidarity for her, writing that, “your writing seems to have an impact and not only in the Balkans. The Kremlin cowards and their representatives are trying to silence them.”
