The European Union has condemned the decision by the Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its authorities to award Russian President Vladimir Putin the “Order of Republika Srpska,” EU spokesman Peter Stano said.
“In the European Union there is no place for honoring and rewarding politicians who order the destruction of a neighboring country and the killing of its people. This should be clear to everyone and this decision of the leadership of Republika Srpska is regrettable and wrong. “, said the EU spokesperson at a regular press conference.
Stano recalled that the Russian president is directly responsible for the illegal aggression in Ukraine and that Ukrainian civilians are being killed and Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure is being destroyed.
The president of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, presented the award on January 8 for what he called “[Putin’s] patriotic care and love for Republika Srpska.”
Republika Srpska authorities celebrate January 9, the date on which the then Assembly of the Serbian People adopted the Declaration of the Republic of the Serbian People of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo in 1992.
The aim was to annex the part of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the then disintegrating Yugoslavia./REL/
