On the eve of Europe Day, the European Union in Montenegro placed a large carpet of flowers in the square in front of the Palace of King Nicholas in Cetinje. The carpet, woven from 33,500 flower seedlings, covering an area of 230 square meters, was inaugurated with a ceremony by the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro, Oana Kristina Popa, and the Mayor of Cetinje, Nikola Djurashkovic.
Ambassador Popa explained that the carpet design was inspired by the floral motifs on the castle floor itself, which blends Montenegrin and European Union traditions, because every year a floral-like carpet adorns the main square of Brussels.
“The combination of Montenegrin and Brussels traditions is a symbolic union, which represents friendship, partnership and a bright common future. Also, the thirty-three thousand five hundred seedlings were grown and provided in the country, because we wanted to support local florists “, said Popa.
Popa invited the citizens of Cetinje and other cities to visit this flower creation in the coming days and join the celebration of Europe Day. In her speech, Ambassador Popa also sent a message of solidarity and support to Ukraine.
“Our heart is with Ukraine, which is defending itself against aggression. Our hearts are also woven into this floral rug. “The European Union and Montenegro, as its partner, will continue to support the Ukrainian people in every possible way,” said the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro.
The Mayor of Cetinje, Nikola Djurashkovic, stressed that Cetinje has the honor to celebrate Europe Day, because it has the glorious past of the royal capital with 12 diplomatic missions, which reminds that Montenegro was the 27th internationally recognized country in the world.
“Today, our fellow citizens are teaching the whole of Europe how to protest against the Russian regime’s aggression against the citizens and the innocent Ukrainian state, and I want to publicly thank them on behalf of the city. “That is why we dedicate this day to peace, freedom and European unity, with the desire to look forward to the next Europe Day in peace in Cetinje, Brussels and Kiev”, Djurashkovic said./The Geopost
