The President of the RS entity, for whom a central warrant has been issued, Milorad Dodik, spoke to the Austrian media outlet “Profil” about the political situation in BiH, relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and a possible arrest.
At the beginning of the interview in which Dodik was introduced to readers, they stated that it is not often that they interview a person for whom a warrant has been issued, but that he is at the center of a simmering conflict that threatens the Balkans. It was pointed out that he is not allowed to enter Austria.
When asked by a journalist about the arrest warrant, Dodik made scandalous claims, saying that “Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina” want war.
“The so-called High Representative Christian Schmidt and the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina are against me and some other politicians. They would rather put the whole Serbian people in a concentration camp, like in the Second World War. The Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina want war again. They want to bring the jihadists here and impose sharia law. And apparently that suits some people in Europe just fine, because they would rather get rid of their own scum and bring them all here.” Dodik tells Austria’s “Profil”.
Although Dodik is currently a destabilising factor, in an interview with the Austrian media he claims that he is not a warmonger and that the RS plan is the only way to respect the constitution.
He was asked what would happen if they tried to arrest him.
“This is a hypothetical question and at 66 years old I do not answer hypothetical questions. If someone thought they could arrest me, they would arrest me. Republika Srpska is a stable system, it is not a group of rebels. I was elected. The Republika Srpska has structures, institutions, its own police force, a department that deals with the protection of certain individuals. I am one of those protected persons,” says Dodik.
Having said earlier that the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is as serious as it was at the break-up of Yugoslavia, the journalist stated that such words constitute war rhetoric.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina must break up. This country is not sustainable. However, unlike many others, I am of the opinion that peace should not be sacrificed for this. But you must know – there are people living together in Bosnia and Herzegovina who do not want to live together,” Dodik said.
The journalist then asked him what bothers him so much about Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is a voracious freak, feeding on illusions from Brussels. Here in Republika Srpska, we live in freedom. As you can see, there is no BiH flag anywhere,” says Dodik.
The journalist then said that Dodik is seen in the West as a hardened nationalist and chauvinist.
“Many people do not know that you were against warmongers in the 1990s, that you described the Srebrenica event as genocide, that you hid Muslim and Catholic families from Serbs in your private home during the war. What happened to you?” asked the Austrian journalist.
Dodik said briefly that nothing had happened to him and that he was now the President of the RS, the entity whose people he represents.
He said he was confident that Vladimir Putin would protect him if necessary and that he had heard him say many times that he never leaves his friends.
Although he claims to respect Austria as a country, Dodik points out that Austria has historically been a negative factor for Serbs.
On the subject of relations with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), whose former leaders Heinz-Christian Strache and Johann Gudenus had visited Banjaluka earlier, Dodik said:
“Everybody. All my people are in the FPÖ. There are 300,000 Serbs in Austria. We Serbs are political anarchists, we are not easy to control. But sometimes we homogenise. We will see what consequences this will have for Austria.”
