Sanctioned by the US, the President of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, said on Wednesday that he will deny the entry into the Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the high representative of the International Community in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt.
“We don’t respect Schmidt. As of this morning, we are working out a decree on how to turn him back and how to arrest him if he comes here,” Dodik told the media in Banja Luka, the capital of Republika Srpska.
This is the next move by Serbian nationalist Dodik to achieve his goals of destabilizing the region. For these actions, Dodik received the blessing of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and Porfirija, who went to the Republika Srpska to give him their support.
His announcement comes just a short time after prosecutors sued Dodik for passing laws that would allow the Bosnian Serb entity – known as the Republika Srpska – to override or ignore the decisions of Bosnia’s high representative and the Constitutional Court.
Schmidt is tasked with overseeing the civilian aspects of the Dayton Accords, which ended Bosnia’s bloody war in the 1990s.
As the international representative, Schmidt has great power, including the ability to dismiss appointed officials and to enact laws.
Dodik, however, has refused to recognize Schmid’s authority since this post lost the support of the United Nations thanks to an intervention by Russia and China.
The latest decision comes after months of heightened tensions in the Balkan country, after Dodik signed the controversial legislation this summer.
In July, Schmidt repealed both laws signed by Dodik.
Dodik earlier made public his plans for the destabilization of the region. He had threatened the separation of the Republika Srpska, while recently he refused to accept the decisions made by, as Dodik says, the “false high representative” Christian Schmidt.
For this he is on the black list of the USA.
The actions of Serbian nationalist Milorad Dodik threaten the stability of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the entire region, the US Treasury Department said.
“Milorad Dodik’s destabilizing corrupt activities and attempts to dismantle the Peace Agreements reached in Dayton, USA, motivated by his self-interest, threaten the stability of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the entire region,” the US Ministry said. .
The United States has imposed sanctions on the Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zelka Cvijanovic, and other senior officials from Republika Srpska for undermining the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords.
The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Srpska, Nenad Stevandic, the Prime Minister of this entity, Radovan Viskovic, and the Minister of Justice in the Republic of Serbia, Milos Bukejlovic, have also been added to the list of US Treasury Department sanctions.
The Treasury said that the sanctioned officials are directly responsible for encouraging the adoption of decisions by the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska entity to declare the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia as invalid in this entity. With this action, according to the US, they have threatened the implementation of the Dayton Agreement.
Despite these developments, Vucic had no problem going to Bosnia to encourage Dodik in his anti-Western and anti-democratic actions.
“We must support each other and we will continue with the projects”, said Vucic after the meeting he had in Bosnia./The Geopost/
