Just a few days after his appearance before the public prosecutor’s office of Bosnia and Herzegovina on charges of attacking the constitutional order, Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska, is back with openly separatist statements.
At a rally in Nevesinje to commemorate the Serbian uprising against the Ottoman Empire, Dodik took the opportunity to clearly articulate the Republika Srpska’s ambitions to secede from Bosnia and merge with Serbia – a familiar rhetoric that threatens not only internal stability but also peace in the region.
On Sunday, Nevesinje commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Serbian uprising in the region against the Ottoman Empire. The rally was attended by leading politicians from Republika Srpska and representatives of neighboring Serbia.
Dodik did not miss the opportunity to speak about the secession of the Republika Srpska. He declared that the historical goal of the Serbian people should be the unification of Republika Srpska and Serbia.
He said that the Serbian elite should unite and define “national and state goals”.
“We need our unity, our undisputed leadership and strong states. We want to build our platform with Serbia, not with Bosniaks and Croats,” Dodik said.
He emphasized, “Serbs today have two states – the Republika Srpska and Serbia.”
“This is not Bosnia and Herzegovina. The longer we stay there, the more we lose our identity. Why do the people from Sarajevo want us to live with them if they want to steal something from us every day?” asked Dodik.
