The nationalist president of the Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, has spoken to the Russian propaganda medium “Sputnik” about the idea of a Greater Serbia, which would include Bosnia, Montenegro and Kosovo. He said that “Serbs living in the Balkans should unite in one state, and this can be achieved through political measures, not war.”
“The only solution is Republika Srpska, Serbia and Serbian territories, of course Kosovo, and the return of Montenegro to Serbian national unity because it obviously belongs to it,” Dodik told Russia’s Sputnik.
He said that this could happen in the coming years when there will be a new balance of power in the world. So, he claims, the Serbs in the Balkans should use this to create something like a “Greater Serbia.”
The President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic and the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama reacted to Dodik’s fascist statement.
Milatovic said that Milorad Dodik’s statement was bad and that this was clear to everyone.
“It is clear to everyone that it was a bad statement, which I condemn as President of Montenegro.” We have clearly rounded up citizenship and consistently followed the path towards the EU. In the interest of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we look forward to BiH joining us on this journey. That is all I will say.
Meanwhile, Rama also criticized the European Union for not responding to this statement with destabilizing Dodik’s intentions.
“Three days have passed since the dangerous and inflammatory statements against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro,” he said. “I must confess I am surprised by the lack of reaction from our EU partners so far and sincerely hope that this silence will be broken as soon as possible,” Rama said.
Montenegro has previously responded through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Montenegro is focused on the European future and not on regressive ideas that live on nationalist rhetoric and aspirations of certain politicians from the region.”
“It is not the first time that the future of Montenegro becomes the subject of inappropriate and unacceptable comments with regard to the local political situation in the region and/or with the aim of deliberately damaging the good neighborly relations, European perspective and security” of the region, therefore we invite Mr. Dodik refrains from expansive and nationalistic rhetoric and behaves politically and responsibly in the spirit of friendly relations as maintained by Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Montenegro said Dodik’s policies are backward.
“Therefore, it is crucial that our region finally rid itself of the regressive political legacy of the dark 90s of the last century, which is still protected and represented by Mr. Dodik, so that we can finally move forward and build the society our citizens deserve.”
