The nationalist President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, awarded Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević with the Order of Republika Srpska on Thursday.
Vučević was awarded for “special merits for the development and strengthening of cooperation and political relations between the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska, as well as for an extraordinary contribution of continued importance to the survival, affirmation and development of Republika Srpska”.
Dodik said that Vucevic was a true friend of Republika Srpska.
Vučević, on the other hand, said it was a “great award for the whole of Serbia”.
“This is a great award for the whole of Serbia and a form of gratitude, for everything we are doing and will do,” said Serbian Prime Minister Milosh Vučević.
He tried to cover up his goals for the “common future” by saying that these measures were in line with the Dayton Agreement, even though they were fundamentally against it.
“I believe that we will defend Serbia and the Republic of Serbia in accordance with Dayton. “We are the same people, we speak the same language, we have the same culture, a common past and we have the right to a common future,” said Vučević.
Before the award ceremony, a choir of primary school pupils from Banja Luka performed the Republika Srpska anthems “My Republic” and “God’s Justice” from Serbia.
Vucevic received an official reception in front of the Palace of the Republic and then spoke with Dodik.
Serbia continues to support Dodik’s efforts to separate Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in violation of the Dayton Agreement that brought peace to that country after the Serbian genocide.
Dodik has been sanctioned by the United States for his actions that threaten stability in the region and for corruption.
“Milorad Dodik’s destabilizing corrupt activities and efforts to abrogate the U.S. Dayton Peace Agreement, motivated by his self-interest, threaten the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region,” said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, when announcing the sanctions.
Dodik travels to Belgrade every time to coordinate his divisive policies and maintain relations with Russia.
