The President of Montenegro, Milo Dukukanovic, who is staying in Istanbul, commented for the Anadolia Agency on the cancellation of the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Serbia, which followed after Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria closed the airspace for Lavrov’s plane.
Asked if he expected an act of hostility or revenge from Russia over the decision to close the airspace for Lavrov’s plane, Djukanovic replied: “You know for sure that Russia has already included Montenegro in the list of enemy countries,” Djukanovic said.
He said it was a rather radical historical turning point, recalling that Montenegro and Russia celebrated three centuries of interstate relations several years ago.
“Montenegro does not pursue any Russophobic policy, nor has changed the respect we have for Russia, for the Russian people and for the tradition of our mutual relations. What we condemn is the policy of aggression,” said Djukanovic./RTCG
He added that the measures they are taking are in response to aggression and are fully 100% in line with foreign and security policy of the EU.
“This attempt by Minister Lavrov to obtain the consent of NATO member states, which have 100% harmonized their foreign policy with the EU, to obtain permission to fly over our territories, is simply politicization and effort to create the illusion of a Russophobic atmosphere. “I am sure that if Minister Lavrov was really serious about his visit to Serbia, knew what the response of the countries on the airline between Moscow and Serbia would be,” concluded Djukanovic.
