The Victory Day Parade, organized by Russian President Vladimir Putin, will take place in Moscow on 9 May. Although the Western world is boycotting the event and calling on heads of state and government not to attend, three autocrats – Robert Fico from Slovakia, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić and Milorad Dodik from Republika Srpska – will take part in this year’s parade. Although there have been strong reactions from Brussels officials that President Vučić should not attend, he will most likely be present at the event and meet with Moscow representatives.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said in Belgrade on Wednesday that he had not changed his position despite the pressure and would travel to Moscow on May 9 for the parade marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.
“With President (of Russia, Vladimir) Putin I have always had an open, sincere and friendly relationship, which is not always easy and simple because we do not always agree, but we trust each other when we say something. Eight months ago I said that I would go to Moscow on May 9, and I will go to Moscow,” Vučić said on national televisions in Serbia.
He added that he will probably go to Moscow alone and that for this trip he will “take all the blows in the world, both from outside and inside”.
