Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the main topics of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House will be achieving a ceasefire and securing reliable security guarantees.
Zelensky made the statement during a brief address to the press ahead of the talks, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“We need a ceasefire. Even now, if you look at the Middle East, it’s very difficult to maintain a ceasefire anywhere, in any war. It’s very hard. We want peace, Putin doesn’t want. That’s why we need pressure on him. Today we will talk with the president about what we need. We understand exactly what is required to force Putin to come to the negotiating table,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that Ukraine needs security guarantees to protect the country from renewed aggression.
“We’re not talking about NATO right now, even though NATO is very important for Ukrainians. […] The most important thing for people in Ukraine, [who] are under attacks each day, [is] to have really strong security guarantees,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, he confirmed that he is ready for any format of negotiations with the Russian leader.
