The UK government has updated its travel guidance for Kosovo, removing the recommendation against all but essential travel to the northern municipalities of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, as well as areas of North Mitrovica north of the Ibar River.
According to a notice published on June 10, 2026 by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the change reflects a reassessment of the security situation in northern Kosovo.
However, British authorities emphasize that travelers should continue to exercise caution, be informed about the security situation before traveling, and follow the instructions of local authorities.
In its latest update, the FCDO urges British citizens to ensure they have adequate travel insurance before travelling, which covers the itinerary, planned activities and emergency expenses.
Meanwhile, the guidance emphasizes that no trip can be guaranteed to be completely safe and recommends that travelers regularly consult official advice on safety, health, and entry conditions into Kosovo.
London's change of stance comes after a period of tensions and security incidents in northern Kosovo, which in recent years had prompted British authorities to issue stricter travel warnings to this part of the country.
