During a meeting with former Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, the Russian ambassador in Belgrade, Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko, has disinformed about Serbs in Kosovo and claimed that they were being subjected to “daily terror by the Kosovar authorities”. He also praised the “courage of President Vučić”, who took part in the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow and disinformed that Serbia pursues an “independent and libertarian policy”.
Sputnik Serbia writes:
“The topic of the conversation was the alarming situation in Kosovo and the ongoing disturbing actions of the institutions in Pristina, which terrorize the Serbian population on a daily basis and seriously threaten the peace and survival of the Serbian people. Bocan-Kharchenko emphasized the exceptional courage and honor of President Vučić, who has demonstrated the personality and unquestionable determination of Serbia’s independent and libertarian policy.”
Analysis:
Such statements, which were also published by the pro-government portal Sputnik Serbia, are not supported by any relevant international reports, such as those of the OSCE, UNMIK or the European Commission. There is no documented practice of systematic persecution of Serbs in Kosovo, and such statements are yet another attempt to spread fear and disinformation.
The claim that Serbia pursues an “independent and libertarian policy” is also called into question by a number of examples from international practice. These include the continued alignment with Russian narratives and the avoidance of alignment with European foreign policy, particularly with regard to the sanctions against Russia, which are causing increasing criticism and concern in the EU./The Geopost/
