US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that he remains convinced that Ukraine will eventually win against Russia.
Blinken confirmed that the situation after nearly four months of fighting is not in favor of Russia. He made the remarks during an interview on PBS with Judy Woodruuf. Despite the fact that Ukraine has suffered great material and human damage, Blinken has predicted that this country will retain its sovereignty.
“Ukrainians are fighting for their country, they are fighting for the future, for freedom,” said Blinken. The Secretary of State stressed that it is unclear why Russia is fighting, and that Putin’s idea that Ukraine is not an independent and sovereign state, and that it should join Russia, is not justifiable in any way.
“I am convinced that at the end of the day Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty will prevail even after Vladimir Putin leaves the political scene,” added Blinken. He is convinced that the deaths in Ukraine are the result of Russian aggression, and that they will continue until this war is over. However, he declined to comment on whether Ukraine should make a compromise with Russia to end the war. “Ukraine’s future depends on the Ukrainians themselves,” added Blinken.
