Ben Hodges: Ukraine’s victory crucial for US prosperity

Retired US General Ben Hodges emphasized that Ukraine’s victory is crucial for US prosperity and global stability.

Given concerns about the reduction of the US military presence in Europe, Hodges told Euronews that Washington needs Europe and that a defeat for Ukraine would also have negative consequences for the US.

The 28-point peace plan drafted last week by Russia and the US, which includes a proposal to end Russia’s occupation of Ukraine, has caused uncertainty, particularly among Europeans who are not involved in the process.

Western leaders said the US plan was a basis for peace but needed further elaboration.

One of the key questions at present is whether Europe can continue to rely on the rules-based security order that has shaped its security for decades, with the United States as its protective power, or whether this has opened the door for Russia to further destabilization efforts in its immediate neighborhood and across the rest of the continent.

“America’s prosperity depends on Europe’s prosperity. Europe’s prosperity depends on the stability and security of Europe, which is being undermined by this war started by Russia. That is why victory in this war against the Russian aggressor is so important.
