The Serbian Ministry of Justice spoke out after a long time, not because of injustice towards war crimes victims, not because of the truth, not because of the law – but solely to defend Milan Radoicic, the man who publicly admitted to organizing an armed attack in Kosovo. While hundreds of families are still seeking justice for their murdered and missing loved ones and Serbia still refuses to open mass graves, Belgrade only activates its judicial apparatus when it needs to protect a criminal who is directly linked to the terrorist attacks in Banjska and has admitted to organizing them.
Radoićić, former deputy chairman of the Serbian List and close confidant of Aleksandar Vučić, is celebrated as a hero in Serbia, even though he takes responsibility for the armed terrorist attack in Banjska.
However, it was only after the arrest warrant for Radoicic was issued that the Serbian Ministry of Justice decided to take a stand – not to condemn the attack in Banjska, but to attack Kosovo’s institutions and accuse them of “shameful persecution” of Serbs. This is no coincidence, but a further indication that Serbia not only does not cooperate with international justice, but also openly protects people with criminal and terrorist records.
In the past, the Serbian Ministry of Justice did not respond to Pristina’s demands to extradite Kosovo citizens arrested by the Serbian authorities for war crimes. For example, in January 2024, the Serbian Ministry of Justice did not respond to Radio Free Europe’s questions about Pristina’s extradition requests and cooperation with Kosovo on the basis of the 2013 Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement.
This selective reaction of the Serbian Ministry of Justice, especially in the case of Milan Radoićić, shows the politicization of court proceedings.
The Serbian Ministry of Justice did not report the numerous cases in which Kosovar institutions brought war crimes charges against Serbian suspects. They did not even speak out when the Serbian authorities deliberately ignored extradition requests for war criminals. They remained silent even when international organizations pointed out the lack of prosecution of crimes against Albanians. But when the arrest warrant reached a man from the top of the political-criminal structure of the Serbian List, they reacted with lightning speed./The Geopost/
