The name of Rada Trajković has been mentioned a lot lately. She has become an adviser in the Kosovo government and this has got her into trouble, not only at the crossings between Serbia and Kosovo.
“I was born in this area and I want to work on a reconciliation that is not only rhetorical but above all human”, Trajkovic told DW, adding that the two nations are directed against each other and that they should reach out “To Europe” together.
The Belgrade authorities, she says, are obstructing her work because they see her as someone who wants to “take away some of the power over the Serbs of Kosovo from Mr. Vučić and its criminogenic part that leads it, and that is Milan Radoičić” .
Trajkovic says that she is essentially “under house arrest” in Belgrade and that she lives “very un-free”. She “feels more at ease” in Kosovo, although she was once under the strong protection of the international community.
The “two realities” of Serbs in Kosovo
In Kosovo – when it comes to the Serbs – there are “two realities”, according to Rada Trajkovic: “In the north, the Serbs are very scared and under the complete control – both psychological and physical – by the criminal elements, of Radoicic and his groups, through which he controls the behaviour of the entire Serbian people.”
“The Serbs under Ibar have also been afraid lately, and even more so of attacks by extremist Albanians”, and it is therefore necessary to prevent a collapse of security and to restore a sense of freedom, “because without freedom there can be no progress”.
It is difficult to make progress in a situation where people are largely indoctrinated to believe that they cannot live together, believes Rada Trajkovic. “The shortcoming of the Belgrade and Pristina teams in the (past) negotiations is that they did not involve smart people.” Neither side really understands reality, which hinders further negotiations.
According to Rada Trajkovic, the international community and Vucic made a big mistake when it came to the implementation of the Brussels agreement: “They allowed the mafia to do the integration of the Serbs.” And when integration is done by the mafia, “the result should be profit.”
The moment they saw their profits threatened, they “went on incidents, destabilising the north of Kosovo and Kosovo itself”, she states.
On the other hand, “Mr. Kurti does not understand or still does not accept that the survival of the Serbs is very important and that the model of the Republika Srpska (…) and because of the number of Serbs living in Kosovo, it is not really something that the international community will allow, but it gives room for the creation of some modality of functional survival, and there are a lot of experts working on this side (…) who understand European solutions to these kinds of problems.”
“Blackmail” of the Serbs
“The Serbian government and Mr Vucic are, in my opinion, the main financiers of Veselinovic and Radoicic, who are listed by the US Treasury Department as transnational criminals or mafiosi, and are suspected of the crime against Oliver Ivanovic. Yet they continue to receive the most lucrative projects from the Serbian government and Ana Brnabić,” Trajković claims.
Serbs who have left Kosovo’s institutions get the possibility of “compensation” from Belgrade. This is “financial blackmail” and “control” of Serbs who sign a contract with their employer – the government of Serbia. “They are recruiting the population again for future activities in terms of their control”, says Rada Trajkovic.
Trajkovic believes that there will be no “final solution” between Serbia and Kosovo, but tensions between Serbs and Albanians can be reduced if Serbia sides with Europe, America and NATO, “at this time when it should be clearly said that we support Ukraine”./DW/
