The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced his departure from the leadership of the party at an extraordinary meeting at the SNS headquarters. And as if you said “three four now” the social accounts of the progressives are overflowing with photos of wolves, the president of the Executive Board Darko Glišić has a dramatic inclusion in the show “Hit Tvit” on Pink, Vučić’s presence at today’s Government session is announced, and then an extraordinary address to the citizens. The tension is at its maximum, a little for real, and a little because we are used to it…
According to our interlocutors at Nova.rs, we are very likely watching another drama staged in the office of the President of the country, with an allegedly uncertain epilogue.
It all came true after the long-foretold meeting of Vucic with the Quint – representatives of the US and the EU, who, according to the President, have issued a serious ultimatum to Serbia.
Then, at an extraordinary meeting in the SNS, Vučić informed his party colleagues about the pressures from the West. Someone allegedly dared to contradict Vučić, who said he was ready to withdraw if anyone thought he could do better, and then, according to regime media, demonstratively left the meeting. With him was the President of the IO NS, Darko Glišić, who then took part in the Hit Tvit programme on Pink, where he said that if Vučić held his ground, it would mean the end of the SNS.
The wolves appeared on the social networks of SNS members as if on command. From the Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević, through the Minister of Family Protection Darija Kisić, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić, the President of the Provincial Government Igor Mirović, the MP Nevena Đurić, even the Director of the PIO Fund Relja Ognjenović
They all became wolves only recently, after Vučić first used the term at a meeting with Kosovo Serbs in Raška, and then on Instagram, where he wrote:
“If they start chasing you like rabbits, then it’s over, then there is no deal, there is nothing. If they catch one or two of us as rabbits, there are no more rabbits, those rabbits become wolves.
And so the wolves were activated on the SNS profiles with the message: ‘President, your wolves are always with you’.
And in fact, most people would say to him, in the words of Slobodan Georgiev, the news director of Nova TV – “how many more old men”.
Hold on legend
“There is probably something in this whole story that is a drama, but this time there are real things in this drama. He had five people there at the same time and they all said the same thing to him. The question is what they will decide. In addition to these serious matters, we again have the accompanying drama that we are used to with his announcement of his departure, the whining and the support of his party colleagues. I honestly think that his whining and shrieking is now in the style of ‘old people, how much longer, we love you, but…’. In the style of, hold on legend,” Georgiev says.
He also explains why everything smells like the game again, which we’ve seen a lot of lately.
“I think it’s all their PR. Let’s not kid ourselves, who from the SNS could stand up to him and say ‘it can’t be like this anymore’. But they don’t even know anything, he keeps them informed. They know what he tells them. Just like Prime Minister Brnabić and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić have no problem saying that they do not know what he discussed with the five. Until the committees start voting one after the other, like when they replaced Nebojsa Stefanovic, I think this is an empty story about him leaving and misleading the public.”
It’s a joke
Political analyst Cvijetin Milivojević hopes that this is not another Vučić show to distract the public from the real problem, although everything is going in that direction.
“Perhaps this is an attempt to manoeuvre, to buy time to decide on the demands of the EU and the US. Perhaps Vucic is trying to secure another month at the head of the party and perhaps at the head of state by announcing his resignation, at the cost of new elections. Otherwise, this is just propaganda, and that is what it looks like. If he really wanted some unity, as President of the country, he would have talked to representatives of all the political organisations yesterday. Instead, he spoke to Darko Glišić, Neven Đurić, Dragan Šormaz … It’s a joke,” Milivojević concludes.
Let’s unite
Recall that after meeting the diplomatic quintet, Vucic called for unity. On that occasion, he met with Miroslav Lajcak, the European Union Special Representative for Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other regional issues in the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Emanuel Bon and Jens Plettner, Foreign and Security Policy Advisers to the President of the Republic of France and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Francesco Tal, Diplomatic Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy.
On that occasion, it was said that the German-French plan for Kosovo would not be abandoned, which in point four foresees Serbia’s consent for Kosovo’s entry into all international organizations, and that means into the UN, which Vučić drew as a red line on several occasions, i.e. something that Serbia will not agree to.
At the moment, it seems that this option is also being considered, because after the meeting, Vucic pointed out that, with one reservation, Serbia is prepared to work on the concept and to implement the plan offered for Kosovo. He also announced that he would consult with members of the government, parliament and all social groups in the coming days, and then called for unity on Instagram:
“Yesterday was one of the hardest days for Serbia and I have never hidden from the people when things like this happen. We will have many problems and problems to face in the future and that is why we need unity,” Vucic said.
However, for now, support is only coming from SNS members’ Instagram and Twitter feeds./Nova.rs/
