Serbia is again the only candidate country for EU membership in the Western Balkans that did not comply with the new EU Council decisions on restrictive measures due to undermining and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine or destabilizing the situation in that country.
As announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, from 3 December to 16 December, the EU Council adopted five decisions on restrictive measures in view of Ukraine – CFSP 2022/2369, 2022/2432, 2022/2477, 2022/2478 i 2022/2479.
All other EU candidate countries in the Western Balkans – North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina – have aligned themselves with the new EU Council decisions.
These countries will ensure that their national policies are in line with the Council’s decisions and the EU takes note of this commitment and welcomes it, Borrell added in the message.
Serbia is the only EU candidate country in the Western Balkans that has not complied with six previous decisions on restrictive measures over Ukraine, taken in July, September and November last year.
It did not comply with the July EU Council Decision on the application of special measures to combat terrorism, nor with the EU Council Decisions on restrictive measures in view of the situation in Iran adopted in early December and June 2022./Beta/
