Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic has commented on the car registration plate agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
Draskovic for Serbian media points out that the car plates must be in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Kosovo, as foreseen in the Brussels Agreement.
“It is very important to say that you can comfortably drive from Serbia to Kosovo,” Draskovic said.
“Whether with the plates of the Republic of Serbia or the Republic of Kosovo is not important, but it is important to comply with the laws of Kosovo according to the Brussels agreement,” he said.
“Then, if the laws of Kosovo say that car plates have to comply with the laws of Kosovo, then they have to comply with the laws of the Republic of Kosovo,” concludes Draskovic.
As a reminder, Kosovo and Serbia – mediated by the United States and the European Union – reached an agreement on illegal Serbian license plates in November 2022.
The decision of the Kosovo Government to re-register cars with illegal serbian license plates to the RKS – Republic of Kosovo, had several phases.
The first phase of the reprimand was implemented until 22 November.
The second phase foresaw a fine of 150 euros for drivers of cars with such license plates and then the introduction of temporary license plates until April 21, the date after which it was planned that there would be no more cars with serbian license plates.
As a result of the raised tensions sponsored by Belgrade, the Serbs of the north of Kosovo – where cars with illegal license plates are mainly circulating – resigned from the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo on November 5. /The Geopost/
