At least 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured in an attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow, where shots were fired and an explosion was heard.
According to reports by Russian news agencies, citing emergency services, people opened fire with automatic weapons on civilians in the lobby of the hall.
“According to preliminary information, 40 people were killed and more than 100 were injured as a result of a terrorist attack in the Crocus City hall,” the Federal Security Service (FSB) said.
While Russian officials said gunmen opened fire in a “terrorist” attack, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said they were still gathering information.
Otherwise, the American embassy in Moscow had warned on March 7 that “extremists” were planning something for the Russian presidential elections.
