Two Russian and Israeli citizens have been arrested in Montenegro after electronic devices, money and medicine were found in their luggage. They were trying to travel to Tel Aviv with 19 suitcases and bags.
According to Montenegrin media, they are Aleksandar Mihailovich Krugljanski, 31, and Aleksandra Krugljanska, 42. They were arrested on September 23 at Tivat Airport, as they were preparing to board a flight to Tel Aviv.
During the baggage check, police and customs found 26210 euros, 1150 Israeli shekels, as well as a large amount of undeclared electronic devices and medication.
Among the equipment, according to Montenegrin media, was a GPS tracker with a microphone, a professional detector for radio signals, surveillance cameras, video surveillance equipment, computer components, memory devices, cables and other electronic devices.
The devices have raised suspicions that they could be used for tracking, surveillance, and detecting eavesdropping devices.
However, Montenegrin authorities have officially announced that the two people have been arrested on suspicion of criminal offences of smuggling and money laundering. The Prosecutor of the Basic State Prosecution Office in Kotor has ordered their detention.
According to police, the communication devices used by the two suspects have been seized and will be subject to further examination.
Montenegrin media report that the two people had tourist visas and that they had entered Montenegro several times during the previous period.
