Warnings from official Belgrade that there would be tensions in north Kosovo after the failure of the Brussels meeting between Kosovo and Serbia seem to be coming true. Last night, a huge explosion, believed to be a shock bomb, occurred in the “Bosniak neighborhood”, causing great concern among residents of the “Bosniak neighborhood” in north Mitrovica, which is inhabited by a mixed population.
“After the special team arrived on the scene, it is suspected to be an explosion of the M75 hand grenade,” Kosovo Police deputy director for the north of Mitrovica, Veton Elshani, announced.
More detailed information was announced by the Kosovo Police in the 24-hour report today.
“Str. Tirana, North Mitrovica, 21.09.2023 – 22:40. The Kosovar complainant informed the police that there was an explosion. According to the police units, it was a hand grenade explosion and no injuries were reported except for property damage. The case is under investigation.”
Kosovo Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla today pointed the finger at Belgrade, which Kosovo accuses of inciting violence in the north. He said the grenade was thrown on the orders of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
“The inspiration, support and order for this criminal act came from the former Minister of Propaganda at the time of Milosevic, Aleksandar Vučić. Serbia committed genocide in Kosovo. Serbia, led by Vučić, not only does not accept this fact, but glorifies war criminals. “The proof of the unchanged attitude is the planning of the grenade throwing,” said the Minister of Interior.
Svecla said the reason was the arrest of some Serbs suspected of committing war crimes.
“Crimes committed during the war in Kosovo will be prosecuted to the end, while throwing military hand grenades by criminal groups cannot affect justice.” Three Serbian citizens were arrested by the relevant Kosovo Police units for crimes against civilians during the Kosovo war after a long operation and with reasonable suspicion. They are suspected of involvement in torture, wounding, murder, deportation and massacre of Albanians in Vushtrri, surrounding villages and Smrekovnica prison. As a sign of revolt against the arrest of these people, as a message to our justice and with the aim of terrorizing our citizens, criminal groups threw military hand grenades into the Bosniak neighborhood last night. “Kosovo will be a state under the rule of law with equal citizens, where equality and prosperity are guaranteed for all,” Svecla said.
The U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, also reacted to this explosion. He called for a full investigation.
“I am deeply shocked to read reports of the use of explosive devices in many parts of Kosovo,” he said. “We condemn these acts of violence and call on the authorities to conduct a full investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Hovenier wrote.
After the failure of the meeting in Brussels, Serbia has started propaganda that Serbs are being mistreated in Kosovo.
Serbian Defense Minister and leader of the Serbian Progressive Party, Miloš Vučević, said that after the failure of the last round of dialogue in Brussels, there is still a tense situation on the ground and the Serbian people are facing pressure.
Vučević, in a guest appearance on TV Prva, said that the incidents “started immediately.”
“Two young Serbs were beaten in Gračanica. Kurti is ready for anything. “Albanians will only provoke conflicts and Kurti’s goal is to clean Kosovo of Serbs,” Vučević said.
Serbia has sent people into Kosovo to cause violence against KFOR soldiers, police officers, and journalists in recent tensions.
An article in The Times said that Serbia, encouraged by Russia, has long pursued threats against Kosovo, and the conflict in the heart of Europe risks erupting into violence and bloodshed.
Serbia and Russia will try to block any solution. NATO must be wary of any attempts to instigate a new Balkan war, the Times wrote. /The Geopost/
