Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that he will be in China from September 1 to 6, where he will participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Japanese occupation. A meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and possibly Vladimir Putin is planned. Vučić also mentioned the possibility of Donald Trump's arrival, although analyst Dragoslav Rasheta doubts this, telling the daily Danas.
Rasheta explains that Vucic uses such events to build his international image and demonstrate close ties with global leaders. However, he emphasizes that Vucic will have to balance his ties with China and Russia and the current tensions with the West.
During the visit, Vucic is likely to seek an acceleration of the free trade agreement with China, new Chinese investments and support for the issues of Kosovo and Republika Srpska. Rasheta adds that China wants to show that it has loyal partners in Europe, while Vucic is using Trump's name to promote his "four chairs" approach to foreign policy.
