With the raising of the flag in front of the Government building at 08:00, the ceremony marking the 14th anniversary of the declaration of independence will begin in Kosovo.
As announced by the Government of Kosovo, the celebration will continue with the laying of wreaths at the graves of former presidents Ibrahim Rugova and Adem Demaçi.
Also, the solemn session of the Assembly is scheduled for 11 a.m., while an hour later the parade of members of the Kosovo Security Force and Kosovo Police will be held.
The Kosovo government has announced that the celebration of the anniversary of the declaration of independence will continue with a reception organized by the president and prime minister of Kosovo, as well as concerts by the Kosovo Philharmonic and the Shota ensemble.
Many congratulations from foreign diplomats on the occasion of Independence Day
Many officials from various countries have sent congratulations on the occasion of Kosovo's Independence Day, including: President of the United States of America, Joseph Biden.
Swiss President Ignacio Cassis has sent a congratulatory message to Kosovo's President Vjosa Osmani. He said that friendly relations between Switzerland and Kosovo, based on mutual trust, are important for jointly addressing major global and regional challenges.
The President of Switzerland has wished the citizens of Kosovo a peaceful and prosperous future.
The Austrian president also joined the congratulations. He said he welcomes and supports the important friendship and partnership between Kosovo and Austria.
"Austria and Kosovo have excellent bilateral relations, political, economic, scientific and cultural exchanges. Despite the pandemic, your visit, Madam President, and several visits at the government level have further deepened this cooperation during 2021," the Austrian President's congratulatory message reads.
Osmani also received a telegram of congratulations on Independence Day from the Queen of the United Kingdom.
"On the occasion of the important holiday of your Independence Day, I would like to congratulate Your Excellency and send my best wishes to the people of Kosovo. As we navigate the global health challenges together, with determination and perseverance, I wish you better times ahead," Queen Elizabeth's telegram reads.
The President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, has also congratulated Kosovo on its Independence Day.
"In the spirit of friendship and closeness that unites our countries, Italy will continue to support Kosovo in its efforts to consolidate democratic institutions, in a European perspective that we hope will be increasingly tangible. In this spirit, we will continue to work to bring Kosovo and its civil society closer to Europe, especially with the younger generations," Mattarella said in a telegram.
Mattarella also stressed that Italy will continue to lead in terms of peace and security in the Balkans.
On the eve of Independence Day, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, congratulated the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.
"I wish all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and you personally, on my behalf and that of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a Happy Independence Day"!
Encouraged and satisfied by the improvement of relations between the two friendly countries, we are convinced that the path of economic, political and any other cooperation and friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Kosovo will be of particular importance for the citizens of our country in the near future.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Kosovo share common strategic foreign policy priorities, membership in NATO and the European Union. “Only together and in cooperation with partners who share the same values can we achieve our goal,” the message says.
In 2008, the Kosovo Assembly adopted the Declaration of Independence. Kosovo officials said at the time that this act opened a new page in history and changed the political map of Europe.
Kosovo declared independence when it was led by President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
