Russian media reports that a fire in a gas pipeline has been extinguished. The BBC was unable to independently verify the reports.
The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion was not immediately clear. The state-run RIA news agency reported that the director of the energy company that operates the pipeline blamed "sabotage."
It is unclear whether a second fire reported in the Luhansk area has also been extinguished.
US officials have said that Russia may be trying to create a reason to launch a military operation in Ukraine.
Russia has denied the allegations.
