Gil Hoffman from Honest Reporting: The people of Kosovo deserve to be presented around the world to provide the facts

The director of the Israeli media, Honest Reporting, Gil Hoffman, in an interview for The Geopost, said that the citizens of Kosovo deserve to be presented around the world.

Hoffman adds that Kosovo should be able to open media in countries around the world, even in Serbia and Russia, and just have the facts reported.

Speaking about the way Israel is presented, he shows that his country is being challenged on two fronts, in the military and in the presentation in the international media.

“Israel is now fighting multiple battles for its existence, it is fighting on military battlefields where Israelis currently have an advantage over terrorists and enemies who want to wipe a Jewish state off the map, has a disadvantage on college campuses around the world, and it’s fighting in mainstream media and social media where the fight can be pretty even, where you have anti-Israel bias in countries around the world, and yet, it’s winnable,” he says.

“If we fight the war the right way, if we hold the media around the world accountable, we’ll get that barrier where they know there’s a watchdog and they have to be more careful about getting their facts right and then there will be more pro-Israel coverage around the world because justice is on our side,” adds Hoffman.

In this interview, he also highlights the case when the media supported by the Kremlin, Russia Today, misinformed about the situation in Israel.

“Look, the world is misreporting about Israel, I remember we had an election here where Benjamin Netanyahu won and I was featured in Russia Today as an expert, and the next person they brought in was Noam Chomsky, who is known to be anti-Semitic, he was the other expert about Israel”, he emphasized.

“And he said, why are Israelis voting for Netanyahu, because Netanyahu fights with Obama and therefore Israelis are racist against black people? That’s what he said and that’s laughable, but they actually took it seriously. So this is Russia Today, the Russian propaganda TV station, but it also happens in free and democratic countries like the United States and Great Britain, where they should really know better, where they should have more accurate coverage and don’t get things wrong,” says Hoffman.

In the end, Hoffman has shown the media strategy he leads to combat this phenomenon.

“We have to constantly monitor the media, making sure their reporting is accurate, there are people around the world who care and want to make sure that Israel is portrayed accurately, supporters of Israel, Jews, Christians around the world who take care of Israel, constantly sending us information that is incorrect to make sure we can do our job and get them to correct it,” Hoffman says.

“It’s a challenge, there are media around the world watching us. You know, there is a prophecy in the Bible, that Jews will be a nation that dwells alone, meaning it won’t have allies, and that has been true unfortunately too many times in our history, and the end of the verse in the Bible says, these people, the Jews won’t care about what the world says about us”, he adds.

“Well that has never been true, that’s a prophecy that has not come true, we care deeply about what the world says about us and that’s why an organization like Honest Reporting has to exist”, concludes Hoffman. /The Geopost/
