Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says the statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kalas on respecting the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland constitutes "the European Union's refusal to recognize Kosovo's independence."
What did Zakharova say?
Zakharova stated today that Russia considers Kala's statement on Greenland as a refusal by the EU to recognize Kosovo's independence. She wrote this on Telegram:
"We consider the declaration as a refusal by the European Union to recognize the independence of Kosovo."

Analysis:
The European Union has never questioned Kosovo's sovereignty in official documents or political practice. On the contrary, the EU treats Kosovo as a state and a separate international entity, as evidenced by legal acts, political processes and institutional practices.
By signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Kosovo, the EU has established a contractual relationship with Kosovo as a separate entity, something that has not been done with any other autonomous territory in Europe.

The International Court of Justice's opinion in 2010 confirms that Kosovo's Declaration of Independence does not violate international law.

The European Parliament has called several times for the remaining five EU member states to recognize Kosovo.
The EU strategy treats Kosovo as an equal partner on the path towards European integration.

The EU Council has decided to enable visa-free travel for Kosovo citizens, which is further proof that the EU sees Kosovo as a state.

Of the 27 EU member states, 22 recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.
So, the claim of Maria Zakharova that the EU "refuses to recognize Kosovo" is untrue. /The Geopost/
