Vladislav Maslenikov, director of the Department of European Affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, is spreading disinformation by claiming that the European Union has experienced a “complete failure” as a mediator in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
What Maslenikov said:
“The European Union has experienced a complete failure as a mediator between Belgrade and Pristina and for many years has failed to honor its commitments to form the Association of Serbian Municipalities,” Maslenikov said at the panel “The Balkan Region in the Eurasian Security System.”
Analyze:
Maslenikov is trying to discredit the European Union and its mediation efforts, while hiding Serbia's destructive role in the dialogue with Kosovo.
But the facts show the opposite. Despite all the challenges, the EU remains the only credible and constructive facilitator of dialogue. Brussels is not only working for an agreement, but also for long-term stability and security in the Western Balkans, which offers a clear European perspective for all countries in the region.
The European Union is the main address for the future of the Balkans – both politically and economically. Full membership in the EU remains the only realistic path towards sustainable peace, development and overcoming past conflicts. /NA/
