Zakharova disinforms: NATO supplies Kosovo with weapons

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, disinforms that “NATO is supplying Kosovo with weapons and helping it build its army”, which in her opinion “is not allowed by the United Nations Security Council resolution”.

What Zakharova said:

“NATO is supplying Pristina with weapons and helping it build its “army”, which is not allowed by UN Security Council Resolution 1244. With the tacit consent of the West, the Kosovo authorities are violating the rights of the Serbian population in Kosovo and pursuing a policy of expelling Serbs from historically Serbian territories,” said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

Analysis:

The United States fully supports the transparent transition of the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) into a multi-ethnic, NATO-interoperable territorial defense force under civilian oversight.

“In this context, the Department of State has regularly made decisions to authorize the sale of foreign arms to the Kosovo Ministry of Defense for use in the KSF,” the State Department stated earlier this year.

Arms sales to Kosovo support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing Kosovo’s security and developing its defense capabilities that are compatible with NATO without altering the military balance in the region or compromising U.S. defense readiness, a State Department statement said.

The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) was established to enable Kosovo to provide its defense capabilities as part of a broader process of stabilization and integration into international structures. This process has been carried out in cooperation with NATO and in consultation with the international community.

The international community, including the EU and NATO, is constantly calling for respect for the rights of all ethnic communities in Kosovo. Many initiatives have been taken to improve the conditions for the return of Serbs.

Claims that this is a violation of international norms are unfounded and part of the propaganda rhetoric.

Maria Zakharova’s statements are part of a broader propaganda campaign aimed at destabilizing and creating a false image of the West’s allegedly hostile actions. The reality is that NATO and the international community are trying to ensure peace and stability in Kosovo through a legitimate international mandate.

Zakharova uses these statements to obscure Russia’s role in fomenting conflict and destabilizing the Balkans.
